The Story Behind Achillea Jewellery

It’s a story I’ve heard so often lately: a fashion job that once defined me, working in the same office day in and day out, with a long commute. I was miserable — really miserable — and disillusioned by the fashion industry and its approach to sustainability.
I began doing a lot of soul-searching and reading, trying to answer a simple but daunting question: how do I find joy again?
And then I remembered: 10-year-old Laura loved making jewellery. I have vivid memories of my Aunty Pauline taking me up to the wholesale shops in London to collect the most amazing beads...and so it began. I started making, I got some pliers and wire and made earrings!
So why do we lose what we once loved doing when we were young? And how could I get that feeling back?
I signed up for a jewellery-making workshop, hoping it would help take my mind off work. It did more than that, it reignited something. It was a one-day course in Twickenham, where we learned the basics: working with wire and beads. (Oh, the beads!) I was transported back to my ten-year-old self — and she loved every minute of it.
Around the same time, I started birdwatching. I grew sweet peas from seeds. I found comfort in the natural world around me. I felt like I was being saved by Mother Nature and Creativity And then it clicked: what if I could combine my love for nature with my love of making?
And so, Achillea Jewellery was born. Named after the golden yellow wild flower (Yarrow) that represents Everlasting Love. When I found out this meaning, I thought, it's just perfect, like a piece of handmade jewellery made with love, and worn with love.

At Achillea Jewellery, every piece is handmade by me, inspired by the beauty and calm of nature — and fuelled by a return to joy. If you’re someone who believes in the power of starting over, reconnecting with what you love, or simply appreciating something made with care and meaning, I hope my pieces speak to you.
With love, Laura. x
